Marble Magic: An Indoor Craft

Fall weather can be a bit iffy – it’s hot, it’s cold, it’s rainy and it’s not always predictable, especially here in Jupiter & Tequesta.  If you’re stuck inside and you’ve got a little one who is full of energy, he or she is probably ready for an activity.  One of our go-to indoor activities is crafting – a toddler fan favorite that’s withstood the test of time. 

You can always grab a tablet, or sit your child in front of the television, but time is fleeting.  Take this opportunity to spend time with your child and introduce them to a craft that maybe you did when you were a child. 

Marbles serve multiple purposes and luckily for us parents, many of them can be really fun. Did you ever paint with marbles as a kid? This is a fun, and (mostly) clean way to get your child to flex their creative muscles.  It’s easy – here’s what you’ll need:

-Marbles

-Paint

-Paper

-Disposable Foil Baking Pan

First, take your paper and place it in the pan. Dip your marbles in different colored paints and drop them onto the paper and have your little one gently shake the pan from side to side.  Soon enough, you’ll have a piece of artwork fit for your refrigerator right next to the Picasso!

If painting isn’t really your thing, try a good game of Jacks and Marbles.  The rules are easy to follow and all you’ll need is a set of jacks and marbles.  First, scatter the jacks on to your surface (a lot of people enjoy playing on the ground).  Next, pick up a marble, toss it in the air, grab a single jack and catch the marble!  Next, throw the marble and try to pick up two jacks.  Continue this pattern until all of the jacks have been retrieved. 

Whatever you decide to do with the marbles, the most important part is that you spend time with child forming memories.  Maybe, just maybe, when your little one grows up and has a kid of their own they’ll bust out the marbles on a rainy day.
