Put A Bookmark There
/With school being canceled across the United States, parents are in desperate need of some activities to do with their youngsters who seem to have a never-ending amount of energy. One of the most important things parents can do when they’re looking to create a schedule and routine for their children is bake time into that schedule for creativity. It’s really easy to forget that creativity plays a serious role in how we develop as people.
One of the easiest at-home crafts that any parent, creative or not, can do with their children goes hand in hand with reading – BOOKMARKS!
Here’s what you’ll need:
-Construction Paper
-Markers
-Glitter
-Glue
-Hole punch
-Yarn
-Scissors
1. Step one is to cut out the shape of the bookmark from the construction paper – a long rectangle technically works the best BUT let your child dictate what shape they go with!
2. After the cut is made, take your hole punch and punch a hole towards the top of the shape.
3. Once this hole is made let the fun begin. DECORATE, DECORATE, DECORATE. You can use anything here – Glitter, magazine clippings, buttons, markers, colored pencils, paint, etcetera.
4. When you finish decorating, set the bookmark aside if it needs to dry. Once everything is dry, grab your yarn and cut your desired length. You are going to feed the yarn through the hole in the bookmark and carefully tie it. If you are afraid you’re going to rip the paper, you can always glue the yarn as well!
